There are so many awesome and creative ways art can be incorporated with writing in elementary classrooms. Whether is be illustrations to a students own piece of writing, or making a piece of art related to a previously written children's book, art is an important aspect in education.
Where Will You Go? - After reading the book, Oh the places you'll go! by Dr. Seus, have students make a cute hot air balloon. Try water color, or paint! You can even attach a creative writing response asking the students "where is a place you would like to go? Similar activities can be adapted to nearly any children's book.

Adjective Art - A huge part of writing is descriptive words. Have students creat self portraits and think of adjectives to describe them. This will get them thinking during future writing, as well as broaden their vocabulary.
Abstract Prompts - Want a way for your students to use their imagination in a creative writing piece? Using different art supplies: bubble painting, shaving cream, water color, etc, have your students create an interesting piece of abstract art. From the final piece students then produce a creating writing piece about their art and what they imagine being seen in the image! This is sure to force students to use their imagination, and the art and writing products will be awesome!
