A great way to assess a student understanding of a subject is to have them create a project, display, or presentation of their knowledge. This also brings in hands-on learning which many students enjoy.
Figure Me Out - Students make a poster or some type of physical display wit math problems regarding to facts about themselves. Example: My shoe size (student puts "3 + 5") The teacher can set guide lines such as the following • must use 2 multiplication, 2 division, 2 addition, & 2 subtraction problems • students must include a picture or drawing of • sample ideas : shoe size, height, the # of letters in my name, how many pets I have This is a cool and creative way for students to show their basic math skills, while presenting to the class, as well as getting the other students involved by solving each others questions. Word Problem Book - For this project students would create a mini book where they make up real life word problems that pertain to their life. Technology could also be incorporated, students need to take a photograph that goes along with each word problem. They must also have a page with all the answers. |
