Field trips to teach reading? Yes, thats right. Students love taking field trips, and the opportunity to have meaningful learning experiences outside of the classroom.
Library - Take your students to the local library. Let them browse through the endless aisles of books, and find a cozy place to settle down and read. The librarian would most likely be more than willing to give an introduction to the students as well.
Community Walk - Did you ever think to take your students on an hour walk through the local community? Bring a camera with and take pictures of different words all through the town. Just think of all the different words you can read on buildings and signs. When you get back look through all the word pictures together.
